WHAT: The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra presents “Season Opener! Breathtaking Barber.” Featuring Andreas Delfs, conductor; Anne Akiko Meyers, violin.
The lights dim. Music Director Andreas Delfs takes the podium. A low pulse rises—Mason Bates’ Mothership ignites, pulling you into orbit where the orchestra becomes a cosmic vessel, and every note is a signal from the stars. Then Anne Akiko Meyers’ violin breathes life into Barber’s Violin Concerto, its tender melodies unfolding like whispered confessions before erupting into a finale of white-hot virtuosity. And at last, the horizon opens. Dvořák’s Symphony No. 6 sweeps you into a sunlit world of dancing rhythms and pastoral warmth, carrying you toward a jubilant, heart-lifting finale. This isn’t just a concert. It’s a voyage across galaxies, hearts, and homelands to start your RPO’s 102nd season.

Buffalo Opera Unlimited presents Pagliacci, a staple of the Italian verismo tradition opens Buffalo Opera Unlimited’s 40th anniversary season. The opera is a larger-than-life story of love, jealously, and betrayal set within a Commedia dell'arte circus troupe, where painted smiles and bright costumes mask infidelity.
Buffalo native Jordan Weatherston Pitts returns home to perform the lead role of Canio. Pitts is joined by Andrea Bickford as Nedda (Metropolitan Opera National Council District Auditions winner), Joshua Conyers as Tonio (Eastman School of Music faculty), and Andrew George as Beppe, making his BOU debut. Brent Weber (Fredonia School of Music) directs and Matt Marco (BOU Artistic Director) conducts the full orchestra and chorus.

WHAT: The Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra presents “Fabio, Folklore & Fantasy.”
Featuring JoAnn Falletta, conductor; Fabio Bidini, piano.
Menacing timpani rolls set the tone for Rossini’s Overture to Semiramide, a deceivingly upbeat narration of a grim story of family rivalries. The piece oscillates between moments of solemnity, intense dramatic contrasts, and more playful themes that all come to a close with a signature Rossini ending of peak movement and excitement.
Bela Bartók’s Dance Suite follows, featuring five original Hungarian folk soundscapes composed for the 50th anniversary of the merging of Buda and Pest, which offers a tonally rich experience and vibrant musical journey through a synthesis of Western and Eastern musical tradition.
